Red Wing Pottery (1878 - 1967)

Red Wing started as Red Wing Stoneware Company in 1878 in Red Wing, Minnesota, making utilitarian stoneware items. In 1906, after merging with several local potteries, it became Red Wing Union Stoneware Company. The 1930's catalogs offered art pottery in colors. Dinnerware was added in 1935. Many lines were hand decorated and designed by Eva Zeisel. About this time "stoneware" was dropped from the name and became known as Red Wing Potteries, Inc.

Two of the top art pottery designers were Bell Kogan (1938-1940) and Charles Murphy (1940's). There design numbers are preceded with "B" and "M" respectfully. The art pottery is highly sought after as is the stoneware. There are several books available on Red Wing Pottery.

7.5" h. x 5.125" w. x 4.125" - This Red Wing 1356 vase/pitcher has a very nice shape. It is yellow with gray flecks and a light green interior. The base of the vase in a leaf design and the vase has a handle. Signed "1356, Red Wing, U S A".

7763  Red Wing  656 Star  Shaped Tan Vase - 9.625" h. x  4.25"  w.  From the top of this Red Wing vase it is in a star shape and both the interior and exterior are tan with other color flecks to give it a nice appearance. It is signed "Red Wing, U.S.A., 656".

7.75" h. x 5.125" w. x 3.5" -  With the shaped double handles this is an attractive chartreuse vase with a gray luster interior. Not as yellow as shown in photo. Signed "1360, Red Wing, USA".

From the top, the vase is a 6-point star shape in an excellent speckled pink. Signed in raised block letters "Red Wing, U.S.A., 656". Excellent condition.

7754  Red Wing M-1600 Speckled Yellow Planter w/Handles. 7" h. x 9.625" d. - Starting at the top this planter has a ridged folded rim and then tapers down to the base. The body is yellow with gray flecks and two metal handles.

7.125" h. x 7" w. x 6" - Stylized leaves decorate this ivory Red Wing vase with a green interior. The leaves form two handles and it has a pedestal base. There is crazing horizontally around the middle of the vase. Signed "Red Wing, USA, 1107".

6016 Red Wing Tan Speckled Vase
8 1/4" h. x 6 1/2" w. x 3". The shape of this vase is sort of Cubist in style and the dark tan speckled exterior is nicely contrasted with the citron interior. Signed "Red Wing, USA, 2001" (Ist number is only partial). In very good condition with some interior staining from use.

5710 RumRill Tan Planter - 7" x 5" x 4 3/4" h - Red Wing Pottery made this planter/vase for RumRill. It has a nice form with the colors being cream and brown. Notice the scroll work handles. Signed "310, RumRill". It is in very good condition.
